Week 42 – Kentucky Fried Tofu

Kentucky Fried Tofu

I’ve been a vegetarian for nearly 11 years. Even though my entire family is Buddhist, they still eat meat and I’m the only vego in the family. My choice is based on a number of factors:

1. I didn’t feel comfortable having animals killed for me to eat
2. Raising livestock for human consumption is a terribly inefficient use of grain, water and land which can otherwise by used for humans. Production of 1 kilogram of meat utilises approximately 20000L of water, wheras only 2000L is required for 1kg of grain.

I don’t judge anyone for the choices they make regarding the consumption of meat, but I can’t say the reverse applies. Thankfully, besides the friendly jibes I receive from my friends, I’ve been pretty lucky to be in an environment where I can make this choice. I must admit though, I’ve been to plenty of parties and bbqs where I’ve had to eat tomato sauce sandwiches!

Technically, this was probably one of the hardest 52 weeks photos I’ve had to work on. I honestly had no idea how to do this in Photoshop and only managed after about 5 or 6 failed attempts.

    Cheers from a fellow vego! You need to move to Boulder – carnivores are in the minority here :)

    I get a sense of respect for people, who like me, are vegetarians for animal rights.

    @marisa
    we’re always in the minority – and I doubt carnivores are in the majority if you’re talking about Boulder as in Boulder, Colorado?
