It’s been a pretty boring period for this blog as I haven’t really done much photography. I’ve been working pretty hard on getting my thesis written, as well as playing soccer and various other things which just so happen to not include photography or music. But as they say, when it rains, it pours! I’ve got 3 shoots coming up this weekend, the results of which I’ll have up sometime next week.

Earlier this week, I photographed a local artist Amy who seems to be a master of all crafts in the world of art; she makes installations, sculptures and paints as well. This shot is for use in a magazine called “Paper Rock” which i mentioned in an earlier post and I’m also going to be shooting a relatively major public figure next week for the magazine. I think it’s headed towards being the cover story so I’m looking forward to it. I hope I can manage to nail a shot in the no doubt small window of opportunity I’ll be offered.

I’m loving the 85mm f1.2 as well! It’s as slow as a very slow dinosaur and weighs as much as my head but it’s definitely got to be one of the best, if not the best of Canon’s portrait lenses. This is a shot i took at the start in case the rest of the shoot didn’t work out or something happened preventing me from getting a shot.

I’ll definitely be trying to use this lens more with natural lighting like the shot above, it creates beautiful sharp focus on whatever you want and throws everything totally out of focus. I was a good 3 or 4 m away from Amy in this shot and check out how in-focus her face is and how out-of-focus her hair hanging down is.
